Where the facts come from
Each candy page lists its sources at the bottom. Most dates and owners come from the candy's Wikipedia article, which in turn cites company histories and news reports. For discontinued candies we also use articles from Tasting Table, The Daily Meal and History.com, named on the page.
When sources disagree
Candy companies often give different start years from historians. When a source only gives a decade ("1950s") or a range, we say so rather than picking a year. When it says "some sources give 1990", we mention that too.
What we leave out
We do not publish rumors as facts. Stories that were never true, like the Pop Rocks and soda legend or the Tootsie Pop wrapper prize, are labeled as myths.
